Why Bolivia Hasn't Cashed In on Its Own Numbers

On paper, that should make Bolivia a lithium powerhouse. In practice, the US Geological Survey's reserves table (the more conservative, proven-and-economically-viable figure, as opposed to the broader "resources" estimate) doesn't list Bolivia at all, reflecting how little of that potential has been converted into confirmed, mineable reserves.
The reasons are a mix of geology and history: Bolivia's brine chemistry carries more magnesium and other contaminants than Chile's or Argentina's, complicating extraction, and the country has cycled through different state-led development strategies for years without attracting the sustained foreign investment and processing technology that turned its neighbors' brines into actual output.
