Equinox Gold's Third-Quarter Output Jumps 34% After Its Merger With Orla Mining

Equinox Gold's Third-Quarter Output Jumps 34% After Its Merger With Orla Mining

Equinox Gold lifted third-quarter gold production 34% to 237,019 ounces after completing its merger with Orla Mining, and says it remains on track for full-year guidance of 870,000 to 920,000 ounces.

At a glance

  • Gold sales rose 39.6% to 248,484 ounces in the September quarter.
  • Equinox produced 611,483 ounces in the first nine months of 2026.
  • The company expects the combined business to produce 1.1 million ounces a year.

Background

Equinox Gold is a North American gold producer listed in Toronto and New York. It completed its merger with Orla Mining in late July, adding the Camino Rojo mine in Mexico and the South Railroad project in Nevada. The enlarged company is anchored by three Canadian mines: Musselwhite, Valentine and Greenstone.

What happened

Equinox produced 237,019 ounces of gold in the September quarter, up from 176,836 ounces in the previous three months, MINING.COM reported. The figures include two months of output from Musselwhite in Canada and Camino Rojo in Mexico. Gold sales rose 39.6% to 248,484 ounces.

"The third quarter was transformational," president Jason Simpson said. He credited strong performance at Musselwhite and steady improvements at Valentine and Greenstone.

Why output rose

The merger with Orla, completed in late July, added new mines to the portfolio. Operations also improved. At Valentine, the average grade of ore fed to the mill exceeded 1.8 grams per tonne during the quarter, reflecting better mining.

What comes next

Equinox produced 611,483 ounces in the first nine months and says it is on track for full-year guidance of 870,000 to 920,000 ounces. Meeting that range needs fourth-quarter output of about 258,500 to 308,500 ounces, more than it produced in the September quarter.

Longer term, the company expects the combined business to produce 1.1 million ounces a year. It has secured federal permits for its South Railroad project in Nevada and begun early construction, with first gold scheduled for 2028.

Our read

Outlook: neutral. Higher output at one producer adds little to global gold supply, so it is unlikely to move prices.

What to watch

  • Fourth-quarter output, which must beat the September quarter to hit guidance.
  • Production gains at Valentine and Greenstone.
  • Construction progress at South Railroad in Nevada.

The Orla merger and better grades at Valentine lifted quarterly output 34%.

What could lift prices

  • Strong gold prices boost margins for growing producers like Equinox.
  • New mines in Canada are still ramping up.

What could weigh on prices

  • Rising mine supply from new projects adds to gold availability.
  • Equinox must raise output further in Q4 to meet guidance.

Industry impact

Who gains, who loses

  • Equinox shareholders: Higher output and sales support cash flow.
  • Smaller gold rivals: A larger Equinox competes harder for capital and assets.

Other ways this could play out

  • If Valentine and Greenstone keep improving, Equinox could reach the top of its guidance.
  • If fourth-quarter output stalls, the company could miss its full-year range.

Price risks

  • Operational setbacks at the newer Canadian mines.
  • A fall in gold prices would cut margins.
