Platinum Rate Per Gram — The Base Unit for Every Calculation
Everything on this page starts from one number: the platinum rate per gram, which sits at ₹5,468.86 today, September 14, 2026. Every other figure — 10 grams, 100 grams, a kilogram, an ounce — is just that per-gram rate multiplied out, so it's worth anchoring on this one before anything else.
Unlike a fabricator quoting scrap metal, jewellers and bullion dealers in India work almost entirely in grams for platinum, the same convention used for gold. Ounces show up mainly when the conversation turns international — a NYMEX futures quote, for instance, is denominated in troy ounces, not grams.

950 vs 900 — Reading a Platinum Purity Mark
Gold buyers in India are used to karats. Platinum doesn't use that system at all. Instead, Indian platinum jewellery is stamped with a purity number — most commonly 950 or 900 — telling you what fraction of the piece, out of 1,000 parts, is pure platinum. A 950 mark means 95% platinum by weight; 900 means 90%, with the remainder made up of alloying metals that add strength and workability.
Why the mark changes the effective per-gram cost
Because the spot rate quoted at the top of this page assumes 100% pure platinum, a 950 piece is worth about 5,195.42 rupees a gram in raw metal terms, and a 900 piece closer to 4,921.97. Jewellers then add making charges on top of that purity-adjusted figure, so two rings with the same gross weight but different purity marks can carry meaningfully different price tags before you even factor in design or labour.
Buyers should always ask which mark a piece carries rather than assuming platinum jewellery is uniformly priced the way a plain-vanilla bar or coin would be. It rarely is.

When the Per-Gram Rate Isn't the Whole Answer
The per-gram figures above are useful for comparison shopping, but they're not the final word on what you'll pay at a counter. A bar or coin bought from a recognised bullion dealer tracks close to the spot rate with a modest premium. A piece of jewellery carries that same metal cost plus making charges, and sometimes a wastage allowance the retailer builds in during crafting.
It also helps to view the per-gram rate over a few days rather than in isolation — the comparison widget above shows how today stacks up against a week and a month ago. A single day's number rarely captures whether platinum is genuinely moving or just holding within its usual daily noise.
Platinum Rate Per Gram — Common Questions
The platinum rate per gram in India today is ₹5,468.86 as of September 14, 2026. This is the spot-linked rate before making charges, wastage, or GST on a finished piece.
950 platinum is 95% pure and 900 platinum is 90% pure — the two common purity marks used in Indian platinum jewellery, in place of gold's karat system. At today's rate, 950 platinum works out to roughly ₹5,195.42 per gram and 900 platinum to roughly ₹4,921.97 per gram, before making charges.
10 grams of platinum at today's rate costs approximately ₹54,688.60, based on the spot price of ₹5,468.86 per gram.
India's commodity exchanges quote gold and silver in standard lot sizes because both trade actively on MCX. Platinum has no equivalent liquid domestic futures contract, so its per-gram rate is derived from the international LPPM/NYMEX benchmark rather than a local exchange print.
The unit is the same — both are quoted per gram in India — but the underlying price discovery differs. Gold's per-gram rate tracks MCX gold closely; platinum's per-gram rate tracks the LPPM benchmark and NYMEX futures converted through the day's USD/INR rate.
