What Nickel Actually Does Inside Stainless Steel
Nickel's role in stainless steel isn't decorative -- it's structural. Adding nickel to a chromium steel alloy gives it the specific crystalline structure (austenitic stainless steel) that resists corrosion, holds up under temperature swings, and stays workable and weldable in ways plain chromium stainless steel doesn't manage as well.
